July/August 2024 Newsletter

A Look back at the World of Stewpendous Trivia in July:

July was a truly bodacious month of fun and games around Chicago! On top of the lineup of our classic trivia shows, we celebrated the legacy of the Power Rangers and Hollywood’s newest buddy picture, Deadpool and the Wolverine at Sidetrack and Replay. We also had a two-week trivia tournament at HQ RiverNorth for the hit book series affectionately referred to as ACOTAR. 28 Teams showed up to compete in the second part of our tournament, including fans who made their own ACOTAR t-shirts!

This month we kicked off our partnership with Punch Bowl Social with our newest shows:  🎶Music Bingo 🎶 on Sunday Fundays and Classic Trivia on Tuesdays. AND We didn’t just bring the fun to the bars, we took it to the house … literally!!  We hosted an epic 40th birthday party in the burbs!

Bars, Rooftops, and Living Rooms. Where there is a space, there is a perfect opportunity for a Stewpendous Trivia Show. Let’s see where we take the show in August!

Fun Fact of the Month:

The Olympics are here!

The Olympic rings were first produced in 1913, from a design created by the Games’ modern founder – Baron Pierre de Coubertin! Their five colors (along with the white backdrop) reflect colors found on the flags of all participating nations, so everyone is represented.

HOLDING OUT FOR A GYRO ... DIP!

Who doesn’t love a dip? It’s the perfect addition to any movie night. Take the time to revisit the 1984 hit Footloose with one of the best soundtracks of the decade. Including Bonnie Tyler’s smash song: Holding out for a Hero.

INGREDIENTS FOR 7-LAYER GYRO DIP: (recipe by Sunny Anderson)

LAMB:

1 tablespoon olive oil

1/4 cup finely grated white onion (on the smallest holes of the box grater)

1 large clove garlic, grated on a rasp

1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano

1 pound ground lamb

1 teaspoon kosher salt

Freshly ground black pepper

LAYERS: 8 ounces roasted garlic or red pepper hummus

4 ounces feta, crumbled

4 plum tomatoes, seeded and diced small

1/2 English cucumber, seeded and diced small

8 ounces tzatziki dip (store-bought or homemade)

2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh dill

Directions:

  1. For the lamb: In a large pan on medium heat, add the olive oil. When it begins to swirl, add the onion, garlic, oregano, lamb, salt and plenty of black pepper. Combine the ingredients, breaking up the lamb while cooking, until it is browned, about 10 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon to a paper towel-lined plate.

  2. Layer the dip. In an 8-inch square dish, layer in this order: Spread the hummus on the bottom, then sprinkle evenly with the lamb, feta, tomatoes and cucumbers. Spread the tzatziki dip over the top and sprinkle with the dill to finish. Serve with the pita chips.
