A Look Back at the World of Stewpendous Trivia in July:
Why is summer in such a hurry? Slow down, take your shoes off, and stay awhile.
I’m writing this at midnight on July 31st, and I can’t wrap my head around the fact that August is already here, and yet somehow July 4th seems like forever ago? Are we in some sort of time warp?
On a personal note, I was lucky enough to start the month with my nephew, who made his first trip to Chicago. He drove from college to celebrate his 21st birthday. Too many things in that last sentence make me feel so old. He is my number one creative collaborator when I write the Pokémon shows, so it was fun to go to the Pokémon exhibit at the Field Museum with him and experience that together. Have you been? It was a super fun and interesting experience, and I learned a lot.
July allowed me to put on my wedding hat and get two precious Love Biscuits hitched. I was so grateful they invited me in to play such a big part of their celebration of love. We wrote a special trivia show centered around the couple for their rehearsal dinner to help family and friends get to know each other so everyone felt like besties on the actual day of the ceremony. On the wedding day, I got to officiate the service, emcee, and drop some boogie down beats to make sure everybody was having a good time. A big shout to Dillon for being my number two and helping it all run smoothly.
We kicked off our third summer with Streeterville Social and are having an absolute blast on the rooftop at the Lowe’s Hotel in downtown Chicago. Huge thanks to Cam for delivering all the quizzical good time vibes this month. He passes the baton to Jenny in August, and we are so grateful to have two talented dynamos collaborating to deliver all the fun at Think Pink Trivia on We Drink Pink Wednesday. If you haven’t been and are looking for something to do to celebrate Chicago Summer, put Wednesdays at 6:30 on your calendar and invite your bestie boos.
If you find yourself unable to make Wednesdays but available on Tuesday, we are having so much fun at Gallagher Way at Wrigley Field. I’m getting to meet so many fabulous Chicagoans who are coming out to enjoy summer and have some fun. This month's theme for Trivia is a big Disney / Pixar celebration, and our Music Bingo is celebrating the 90s/2000s! We hope to see you out there!

Sparkle Squad Spotlights
This particular Sparkle Squad Spotlight fills me up like a basket of every type of emotion, from feeling devastation to elation. One of our Sparkle Squad Members is hosting her final show on August 4th. 😭
Sam started hosting at Whiskey Girl in May of 2023 when our other host, Lydia, followed her heart and went to pursue a degree. Wouldn't you believe it, that is what Sam is leaving to do too. She will be heading to Fayetteville to attend classes at the University of Arkansas to fulfill her dream and continue to grow as an artist.
When she started hosting at Whiskey Girl, we were a small show in the front bar with the kindest and most supportive group of players. Sam has grown that community to the point that we moved to the significantly larger back bar area. And because of her, you still have to get there early if you want to get a table. Sam has created a community we affectionately call the Whiskey Girlies. I love every chance I get to sit in the room and watch everyone have a fabulous time.
She is the queen of Dad Jokes and always has one on the ready! Her time working with us has developed into so much more than just Mondays at Whiskey Girl. She has subbed at bars across Chicagoland; she has hosted Lotería and Music Bingo, and was my fabulous assistant in our pilot Spelling Bee show. I will be forever grateful for the 3 years we had to work together and collaborate. I believe this in my heart: this is not the last time we will work together, just a long pause until the next show. Sam Stroming has truly been an incredible artistic collaborator, host, entertainer, and Stewpendous shero.
We are thrilled to announce Eliana Payne as the next host at Whiskey Girl Tavern. We know she will bring a great energy that only she can deliver, and the Whiskey Girlies are going to have a fabulous time together. Her first show will be on August 10th.

Nostalgia is a key pillar of our quizzical philosophy! Every month, we’ll give you a fun, nostalgic pop-culture recipe that will surely awaken your memories!
Looking for a fun and fruity refreshing cocktail to enjoy this summer?
Whip up a couple of Alabama Slammers for you and your friends. It was a drink that was big in the 80s, and I think it is due for a comeback. The Alabama Slammer is said to have originated at the University of Alabama in the 1970s, where it became a go-to at tailgates when served in shot glasses. This boozy drink had a boost in popularity in the 1980s after the release of the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise. Although some of its initial popularity has waned through the years, we think you'll love the complexity and fruity flavor of this classic drink.
Four main ingredients come together for a uniquely balanced cocktail with great depth of flavor. To make an Alabama Slammer, you'll need:
Orange juice: For a bright, citrusy flavor and acidity.
Sloe gin: Such as Plymouth, for color and a fruity flavor.
Whiskey: Such as Southern Comfort, for a robust and slightly smoky base.
Amaretto: Almond liqueur that adds a nutty undertone to the drink.
Maraschino cherry and orange wedge: Colorful and fruity garnishes.
Ingredients:
Recipe found on Southern Living
3 oz. (6 Tbsp.) orange juice
1 oz. (2 Tbsp.) sloe gin (such as Plymouth)
1 oz. (2 Tbsp.) whiskey (such as Southern Comfort)
3/4 oz. (1 1/2 Tbsp.) amaretto (almond liqueur)
Maraschino cherry, for serving
Orange wedge, for serving
Directions:
Shake to combine orange juice, gin, whiskey, and amaretto in a cocktail shaker.
Pour over ice in a highball glass.
Garnish and serve.
